Peripeteia - Worth the Search

I'm a big fan of the site-specific shows. Since I loved The Elegant Ladies Collective's Eidola (the women from Shakespeare), I was pretty sure I'd like Peripeteia too. And I did.

The Elegant Ladies Collective was founded by Leslie Stark in 2014. For Peripeteia she has pulled together 12 (and this number is important, so pay attention) individual performances of “turning points”, added an opening context builder, a conclusion/epilogue, and a bit of audience participation. You get a variety of performances in a beautiful setting and some things to ponder.

Peach - Hilarious, Gutsy and Poignant

Peach, a five-star, one woman, monologue show that has been travelling through Canada, has found its home at Vancouver's 2016 Fringe Festival. Danielle Roy spins a cheeky, giddy tale, woven with misadventures and brazen, laughable revelations of teen love. Peach, played masterfully by Alex Harthorn, holds the audience captive with her woes and rants, and later, her heartbreak. Peach initially masks itself as a naive tale of young love but slowly builds into a gritty expression of female victimization in all it's horror.

Not So Mad About Madison

Maybe I needed that afternoon coffee after all. I found it challenging to remain engaged with A Weekend Near Madison. Was it just me, or was this play uncomfortably long? While there was no shortage of talent on the stage, and the script offered up some thought provoking and moving moments, I found the performance, as a whole, rather lacklustre. 

For the first fifteen minutes, I felt like I was watching a rehearsal. (Okay, it was a first performance.) The actors looked vaguely uncomfortable, delivering their lines without a great deal of commitment, and while the play never really transported...
