  • Giant Invisible Robot is an hour-long presentation by fabulous London, Ontario actor Jayson McDonald.

He got a standing ovation at the end of his opening show last Thurday evening.

What's he looking at? Our reviewer wants to know.

    Directors Notes:

"Have you ever pondered what lies beyond your front gate?  Did you go out and take a risk, try something new?  If yes, hopefully your dearest friend or sister was there to hear your exciting tale and perhaps love and comfort you if you went astray.  Enjoy our fairy tale in the glen.."

The Goblin Market - A Musical through setting, music, and performance takes us into a magical otherworld away from our common realities.

Easily and wonderfully the physical setting of Circle Point slips this site specific piece into...

  • This quirky funny treasure put on by Noble Porpoise Theatre at Studio 16 is a bit hard to follow but the dialogue and attitude of the performers – two in physical body but a total of seven in personalities - plus the millions of unseen zombies that are constantly being killed and trying to kill our cranky, sarcastic bitchy and multiple personalitied (is there such a word? – oh well it fits the story) characters makes it all worthwhile.

The major philosophical conflict between the two protagonists is that Kieran Macanulty has to be the Hero and Sylvie LaRiviere...

  • Homeland by Debbie Blair

What do you consider your homeland? …and where is it….or where are they?

What is the relationship with idea of homeland and the physical space where you live?

    Is there a relationship?

Do you think your idea of “home”  is the same (or similar) to other people’s idea?

QUOTATION FROM THE PROGRAM NOTES:  "Complex questions are asked in this 60-minute Vancouver premiere of the multimedia performance by Gotot Art Productions….. in their 2011 Dora award-nominated production of the meaning of home in the hybrid setting of physical theatre, live music and documentary film.  The...

  • Mr. Boat-head’s technicians (aka Kate and Brendan) have been deployed to Triangle Square where they’re on a mission to collect nourishment for their captain.  Unfortunately, Mr. Boat-head has no imagination of his own.  He’s forced to consume the imagination of others.  Stories, dreams, poems, and lies are captured and ground into pickled delicacies for his creative feast.

As we sat in a circle, each audience member made a two-minute recording of his or her narrative.  So, the audience actually becomes the performers in this site-specific event.  There was a feeling of kinship as we sat around our electronic campfire. ...

  • Allyson McGrane’s show does ‘Vision’ accompanied with much conviction and moving lights. The idea is to find the theatrical big thing, that true artistic vision that appeals to everyone. Just like Justin Bieber.

    Capital V, Extreme V, Vision!
  • Not many people can claim talons and death as new job issues to be expected like dialing ‘9’ for an outside line. But the job of an animal rescue officer is intense, especially when on call for overnight emergency services.

Katie, who’s never held a cat must become a hero and so she does. The phases of her training are marked with important realizations about life and about herself. The characters she portrays are people you know. Or at least, if you ever do meet them in real life, you’ll know exactly what she was talking about.

  • Figment is a difficult play to recommend. I would say that if you are going out for an evening of fun and delight with friends, I would not recommend this play.

    serious and bleak
  • I’m a fan of improv. I even took an improv class twice down at Granville Island. I wasn’t very good at it, which only made me even more jealous of those who could do it well. Coming up with ideas instantly and running with them in ways that aren’t merely amusing, but actually entertaining, is a tough skill to master.

Here’s the problem I have with ShLong Form: there’s no theme to the show. Four very likeable and talented improv artists come out on stage and engage the audience to prompt them with names, locations or other phrases that will...

    improvisational stuff
  • Gladstone is a great, clever, and funny writer (his brilliantly funny HOUDINI’S LAST ESCAPE is playing at the Waterfront Theatre), and a charming performer.
