Kicked

Company:
Project X Theatre
Duration:
55 minutes
Venue:
Pacific Theatre
Photograph:

A cop investigates the case of a missing girl, which leads him to her bodacious bus-driver desperate to protect his kids, a stuttering, childlike shoe salesman, and an egotistical ER doctor.

Adrian Mancini gives a visceral performance as all four characters in this haunting, moving play about childhood, living up to your potential, and listening to that voice in your head.

Victoria: 8 1/2 sketches. Begin with written cards that render a good laugh. Chris then launches into a monologue, script in hand, a good old southern boy saying goodbye to his grandpa Peter rocking on the front porch. There's a disagreement on the location of the fourth wall. Segue to a job interview, and it's established we're in the throes of two young performers who have nailed the manic, precision mastery of meta comedy improv.

To confront her titanic and paralyzing fear of aging, Nurse Jackie takes a job with Jewish Aged Care. At 31, she feels she must come to terms with her own mortality lest she faint on the day she looks in the mirror to find wrinkles and gray hair. But she soon learns that age brings experience, wisdom, and humour to a life - it's not just about bodies getting old and wearing out. The show mixes verbatim theatre with puppetry and character comedy.
