Sex, Religion and Other Hang-Ups – A Damn Fine Show

Comedy, Monologue - http://sexhangup.com/

So – here is my Fringe prediction. James Gangl will win your heart with his charming, funny and oddly innocent ways. If I was single, I'd be looking this man up for a good time. (In fact, I may just do so anyway... sorry honey.)

Telling a story about his Catholic upbringing and an encounter with a sexy underwear model, Gangl offers unexpected insights into the vulnerability of getting into a romantic relationship. Using a conversational style and frequent improvised asides, he brings the audience along on a topsy-turvy journey that starts with a bit part in a Coors Light commercial. Witty flashbacks (and songs about a myriad of saints) create a solid background for what is essentially a fairly straightforward story of boy meets girl (though you'll definitely be surprised at the twists and turns).

Gangl is an excellent performer who creates a warm relationship with the audience – you're really rooting for this guy. He's often laugh-out-loud funny... especially when he decides to ask members of the audience about their own sexual experiences. And did I mention the terrible love poetry? (Which is apparently for sale after the show – though I'm not sure it will get YOU any dates.)

The upshot is - if you want to laugh and enjoy 75 minutes at the Fringe, I think that Sex, Religion and Other Hang-Ups is well worth checking out.
