Lucky 9: a thoughtful and entertaining romp

TJ Dawe

TJ Dawe’s autobiographical one-man, Lucky 9, show gets stronger with each passing minute. He draws together seemingly random and disjointed anecdotes from his childhood, school and his adult life into an artful voyage of discovery about personality types and what it takes to transcend them.

An early bit comparing the Olympics to a worldwide gathering-in of tax attorneys draws some big laughs. Yet his talent really shines when listing off the nine personality types that all human beings are said to fit into – kind of dry stuff, yet Dawe’s delivery keeps you chuckling – and thinking.

Dawe “realizes” he’s discovered his personality type and sees how his less positive patterns over the years have limited his life experience. With his newfound knowledge he goes about resetting his life and trying to do the same thing, with varying success, with the rest of his family.

It’s a challenging, interesting show with good humor and a charming performer. Enjoy the show.

Lucky 9 is on as part of this year's Vancouver Fringe. For more information go here.
