The Troll and the Three Lesbians Gruff - A Well-Conceived Show

Genre Definition = Funny · Warm and Fuzzy · In Your Face

I am not sure if this was intended but in light of the recent controversy regarding the upcoming Olympics in Sochi, Leaping Thespians' production of The Troll and the Three Lesbians Gruff could be considered somewhat timely.  According to the company's press package, trolls derive their greatest satisfaction from preventing bridge crossings, creating the obstacle that blocks the span created to overcome another obstacle.  The trolls' disruptions include brute force and also sophisticated magic spells such as making people hard-hearted to each other.

Troll has taken over a peaceful village which has survived and thrived in love for many years, and turned its inhabitants distrustful and prejudiced against each other.  By enacting a spell which gives each side of the village opposing viewpoints and dividing the town with the bridge in between, Troll and her sidekick Toady pit family, friends and lovers against each other.

Part of the Vancouver Fringe Festival's OnSite program, Leaping Thespians present their enchanting, earnest tale under the Alder Bay Bridge making nice use of the bridge and the water below, cleverly lighting themselves with practical lighting, singing and accompanying themselves with guitar and creating sound effects with percussion instruments. With fine performances by Piper as Troll, Jingo as Toady and Kiri McGuire and Nina De Lucca as the two lovers, this Leaping Thespians production, the company's seventh original show, is well-conceived by founding member of the company, Karen White.
