Run For Your Life: A Journey Not Taken

A brilliant idea is ruined by a poorly rehearsed performance – for this show to work it needs to move like clockwork. It doesn’t.
The floor is covered in a map of the world – Cormack tells us part of her life story as she moves from country to country as a recorded voice lists them alphabetically. In the middle section of the show, she draws Ireland and Wales in outline and lists statistics that join her two “homes.” Then she tells us where she’d like to visit on earth, taping down a zig-zag line and then there is a city repeat of the country thing. It sounds boring in outline but it would actually work if only...
Sinéad Cormack has charm aplenty - it simply oozes out of her, she earns a few laughs with her, and a few at her. Look, I wanted to love this show. It began well and I think that two to three weeks of rigorous work could save it - next time perhaps.
Though this review seems a bit harsh, I believe the premise/idea/staging concept is so good that it’s infuriating to see it wasted.
