Responding to The Whole Beast

Lee Su-Feh

The Whole Beast

If I were a dancer, I'd want to be a dancer like Lee Su-Feh.
Strong, elegant, overpowering – yet tender too.

When I watch her move through space, I think of a black panther.
When she speaks, I hear a small girl with great courage.
When I close my eyes, I imagine a star burning brightly.

Solo dance requires great discipline and fortitude.
No one can save you if you fall.
It is an intimate relationship between audience and artist.
We can experience your journey only if you can carry us along.

I learned of a childhood nothing like my own.
I smelled the cooking of parts of animals that I have never tasted.
I believed in a world where dragons could be real.

If I were a dancer, I'd want to be a dancer like Lee Su-Feh.
Beautiful, tiny, mighty – and able to eat the heart of a dragon.
