Like Science: Young Reviewer Responds to Siren

Siren, Alex Edwards wants more like this, so do we!

_Alex Edwards and her mother Susanna Uchatius took in "Siren":http://pushfestival.ca/index.php?mpage=shows&spage=main&id=69#show, the sound installation by UK artist "Ray Lee":http://www.invisible-forces.com/ that was part of this year’s PuSh Festival. Alex shared her thoughts with her mother, who shared them with Norman Armour, Executive Director of PuSh, who in turn shared them with us and now we want to share them with you. You’ll see why._

Hi there Norman,

I have to let you know that I was so glad that I brought my daughter Alex Edwards to see Siren. To be honest with you, I wasn't sure what she would think of it. When we came out of the performance I think I was in a stunned state. I just turned to Alex and asked what she thought. She burst out like an explosion!!!!

I wrote down what she said and these are her words. I thought that you would like to know them.

"Amazing....like a spaceship....like science....I want to go again.....it's like out of a science movie.....in the beginning I had my eyes closed and a picture came into my mind.....that was awesome....I think you should take me to more stuff like that."

I couldn't write it down fast enough.

When we were driving home we started to sing and I realized that my voice was wide open and resonant. I don't know how to explain what the hell it was that we saw or even experienced in Siren. What I do know is that it messed with our senses in some way – things opened, loosened, lifted – and as Alex realized sooner than I did: it was amazing!

Thank you Norman for bringing such experiences. I had better bring Alex to more! She is far more perceptive than I am.

_Siren is composed and devised by Ray Lee. Performed by Lee and Harry Dawes. Produced by Simon Chatterton. Technician: Stavroula Kounadea.
