Nashville Hurricane - Padgett has Audiences in the Palm of His Hand

I encouraged three friends to join me for Nashville Hurricane on its opening show on Sunday night. I'd seen Six Guitars with Chase Padgett and felt I'd hit the jackpot when it showed up on my list of shows to review for Plank Magazine.

We applauded loudly and enthusiastically after the first guitar song, and he had us in the palm of his hand throughout the entire 70 minutes.

Padgett plays four different characters and sometimes switches quickly back and forth. No prop or costume changes, but you just “get” each of the characters.

I would venture to say if you liked Six Guitars, you'll like this even more. The story is riveting and hilarious. The audience laughed out loud and applauded, and barely stopped short of cheering and jeering Pantomime-style. There was an instant standing ovation at the end.

Padgett is such a sweet guy too. At the award show last year after being called up on stage over and over again, he thanked the Vancouver Fringe but felt compelled to quote negative reviews from elsewhere. This year on Sunday night, he thanked us for being a great audience (it wasn't hard, obviously, but I admit we were). Then he told us that he had felt quite nervous as he hadn't done the show for six months and that his hand was hurting for the last half of the show.

My friends thanked me for recommending it. You will too.
