The DK and Morgan Show: thinking about why you laugh

DK and Morgan

Don’t want to think too much? Just want to laugh? Then The DK and Morgan Show is definitely for you.

I didn’t really know what to expect when the lights went down at Performance Works But suddenly I was watching two guys with bright orange traffic cones on their heads singing praises about Crayola. What had I gotten myself into? Just over an hour of sketch, improv and stand-up comedy. Nice!

DK and Morgan are two guys who could not be any more different in size, stature, appearance and even name – but they certainly know how to make comedy together. Their performance is somewhat of a variety act in the sense that you never know what you’re going to get next, but these two guys are always sure to make you laugh – and will often make you think about why you laughed.

Scenes have been created from observations of everyday people and situations, and so many times while watching I found myself thinking “That is so true” or “I am that person”.  DK and Morgan skillfully hone in on stereotypical behaviour of different generations and successfully highlight the pure comedy of the things we do and say, forcing the audience to laugh at their own (and possibly their partner or friend’s) shortcomings.

And then there are the scenes that are just weird, like the Crayola one. But strangely, you will find yourself laughing just the same – a testament to DK and Morgan’s wacky sense of humour and ability to make even the mundane funny.

If you decide to see The DK and Morgan Show this year, make sure you go with an open mind and a large appetite for weird and somewhat self-reflective comedy!

The DK and Morgan Show is on as part of this year's Vancouver Fringe. For more information please go here.
