Die Roten Punkte - Calling all Germans

Die Roten Punkte - Super Musikant

The premise is a good start.  This is a brother and sister rock and roll act. She's a recovering addict and he's immature.  They're in family therapy and practising their "I statements" to ensure "effective communications in the workplace": on stage in front of us. Which doesn't stop the incest theme....

The brother has his pouty, comic moments, particularly when he's improvising off the audience, but the sister draws more attention in the end: a buxom fraulein in an enormous, red-frilled skirt, who spanks her drums in the dark. Their punk rock band is struggling, though, and it's hard to play bad music well.  Some of it ends up being uninteresting (Rock and Roll Monster/the Drinking Song), and I couldn't hear most of his lyrics, but when they got going to a techno beat (Ich Bin Nicht ein Roboter; I am a Lion) the silliness became inspired and the crowd roared.  Moderate, Fringe fun.

I hear contemporary German theatre is the most exciting theatre in Europe right now, but rumour has it that some German people who saw this show in Vancouver didn't particularly like it. Can any Germans write in? Is this a good example of modern German Fringe fare?  Or is this just comedy from anywhere? How does it compare to what else you can see over there?

Produced by Tobias and Bartholomew, Berlin, Germany. Performed by Clare Bartholomew and Daniel Tobias.
