Confessions of a Fairy's Daughter - A Story Shared

Genre Definition = Funny · Poetic · Intimate

Alison Wearing knocks this outta the park! This was not a play...this was a heart-felt, inspiring avalanche that Alison engages with her audience at The Cultch. A historically anchored auto-biographical recount about growing up with her gay father. Starting in the 1970s, Wearing confides in us with her "confession" on what it felt like growing up confused, frustrated, ashamed, and proud.

From Toronto's bath-houses, to police brutality, to French cafes... We are all taken on a socially-enriched journey filled with snapshots of where her family, and our cultural was, and where it has landed with not so "normal" family dynamics. This show didn't feel like acting at all. It was genuine, comical and gripping. We learn of a young girl's struggle from childhood through adolescence. But also the struggles of her mother, siblings, and her father - everyone was forced to come to grips - Dad is Gay.

I left this performance feeling an overwhelming sense of the cathartic need for our stories to be shared with the world. Thanks for sharing yours Alison.  Thanks to her father for being so brave...taking a risk...and choosing to live as you truly are. Best show so far for me!
