Broad Comedy: funny stuff with broads

Broad Comedy, comedy broads

From the opening rap song, “She’s a soccer Mom ‘ho,” Broad Comedy is an enjoyable hour of sketch comedy and parody. A comedy troupe of four outrageous women, their subject matter is heavy on American culture but pleasingly so.

There are some very well written songs, including the girly Christian sleepover tune “Saving My Hymen for Jesus,” and the acoustic guitar ballad about the clueless Clingy Girlfriend (“No, you hang up first...Hello?”).

The Extreme Right Wing Cheering Squad is great; “We don’t have to worry about where we’re headin’/Our scientists believe in Armageddon!” There are a couple of solo pieces, including one monologue of a harried Mom who  meets up with a friend who is due with her first child in a few weeks. Extolling the joys of experienced motherhood takes some dark turns;  “I just wish I could get away for a few years. Did I say ‘years’?”

There are some fun voice over segues as the performers change off stage, like the outsourced sex line, with the Indian accented male awkwardly filling the role of a sexy blonde, “oh yes, that is feeling good.” I thought a couple of sketches went on a bit long, but over all it’s an entertaining time with four really strong performers.
