7 (x1) Samurai: animated awesomeness

7 (x1) Samurai

7 (x1) Samurai is a comedy one man show is based on Akira Kurosawa's epic film Seven Samurai. You may also know this story from the 1960 western classic The Magnificent Seven.

David Gaines is remarkable as he transforms himself into all the characters in this story. Using his masterful knowledge of movement, timing, sound effects and a keen sense of humour, he transports the audience to that time and place in Japan.

With only two masks and his gi (martial arts uniform) as props, he brings the audience unique individuals with their own personalities. Gaines pushes his ability to use his body and with minimal dialogue he captures the audience.

At the end of his first show the lights dimmed and the audience gave him a standing ovation. I am very happy to have been able to be part of that experience.

This is an awesome, animated show and fun to watch.  I definitely recommend this show to anyone.

7(x1) Samurai is on as part of this year's Vancouver Fringe. For more information go here.
