Jay & Silent Bob get old SModcast LIVE in Vancity

Last night Jay & Silent Bob (AKA Kevin Smith & Jason Mews) graced us with their presence downtown Vancouver at the Vogue theatre. The line-up outside was long and it was pretty cold, but as soon as everyone settled into a packed house with our beers (and a hint of herb lingering in the air) we were all chirping away about our favourite SModimation vids, movies and everything else that was Jay & Silent Bob. It was a fans only clubhouse event. Everyone there knew what they were there for, what to expect and to be part of a live podcast event with Kevin Smith and Jason Mews was nerdy-awesome-cool.
Some people may be asking , “So….what’s a podcast?”
A podcast is a series of digital media files that are released periodically and may be viewed or listen to.
The other way I like explain it to non-techie people (and my mom) is that it's a radio show with people discussing stuff, they record it and then upload it onto the internet.
Jay & Silent Bob get old SModcast's one show stop in Vancouver was great.
As a fan of their podcast show and the body of work from these two characters, I was excited and genuinely happy to be part of the whole experience. Watching these two friends up there talking about their past (this time specifically in Vancouver) and it felt like it was a party and we were chilling out with them. (and we were!!)
A little background on SModcast:
Kevin Smith with his long time producer and friend Scott Mosier began to produce their podcast early in 2007. They came up with the word SModcast by taking the first letter from their last names (Smith and Mosier) and replacing the “P” in podcast to create: SModcast . Since its inception SModcast has been extremely successful and with that success they have branched out with their own network of podcasts. One of their many podcasts is a fan favorite, drum roll please… Jay & Silent Bob get old.
Wallah…my cycle of explaining is now…something something…darkside…something something complete….
I think everyone at the show left satisfied and stoked. The only thing that would have made this experience even better for me (personally) was if my friend Shane came to the show too. He was the one who got me hooked onto SModcast, however he was doing his own podcast. (insert shameless advertising here )
The key point I want to express is the event of “going and being there live”.
If you are a fan, listen to smodcast, watch SModimations with your boss, or like to run around going up to people and quoting things like “Snootch to the nootch” you will like this….ALOT
If you don’t really care about the live experience but still enjoy listening to their stuff, you‘ll listen to the show when it’s published online at Jay & Silent Bob get old page.
If you are in Edmonton on the 8th, Saskatoon on the 10th, Winnipeg on the 11th, Jay & Silent Bob will be around.
Ps: OH KIM…you still owe me a beer ;P
