Well...
So I had to see for myself. There’s been so much talk about this show that I figured, what the heck? It’s this or the Mating Rituals of a Cougar show.
Well I can safely say as a 27 year old guy – from here on in, I’m going after older women.
It’s not that this guys impressions were bad – on the contrary – they were quite good. It’s just that his act isn’t that funny. Maybe it would’ve been funny if I had been high like certain members of the audience (and this is not me being pretentious, this is me noticing the red eyes and smell as I passed them in the line up,) or perhaps other people just feel that laughing at someone is better than staying silent with a shocked expression on your face like I did.
So – a review. Basically the show takes place at the Laugh Hole Comedy Club that’s closing down tonight (for some strange reason – perhaps to ‘heighten the tension’ of the piece, this performer finds out part way through the show that his club is being shut down. His boss has decided to sell the land to have a Blockbuster take place there. I guess we are supposed to believe that a club that can attract the likes of zombies, Christopher Walken and even Hitler doing impressions of Christopher Walken is not doing good business.
But perhaps I am reading too much into it. I mean, common – can’t I just laugh. Are the flamers on the board going to tell me that I don’t have a sense of humour? Perhaps that I am too upper crust for this?
Fuck you. I laugh. A lot. I love stand up. Whenever I visit my family we watch our old favourite “Just for Laughs” on the Comedy Channel. I don’t think tons of swearing is particularly funny, that’s true – but with the best of them I can laugh at everything that has fuck, shit and yes ladies, even the “C word.” Okay well he doesn’t say the c word – but he spells it – sort of. I’d say you should go see for yourself, but you might not have a free pass like I do, and well let’s be honest – I know you can find better ways to spend your $10.
So, where does that leave us? One of the most interesting lines in the piece is when the performer compares the change of his beloved comedy club to a Blockbuster with and I quote “closing a five star steak house and opening up a mcpukes.”
Perhaps it was irony?
One last thing – I want to say – the performer did a really great thing at the end – encouraging other people to shout out their show and telling people to go see it. It was an extremely sweet and kind gesture from someone I felt was so abrasive and rude to members of his audience during a show. It actually made me like him for a minute. It takes a brave person to get up in front of a room full of people and do comedy.
It takes a braver person to leave it to people with talent.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhh
Don’t waste your money on this crap!
Feel the need to senselessly waste your time?
In “Amatuer Night of the Living Dead” the keyword would have to be AMATUER.
This guy is just not funny.
